This course introduces students to the directing process for the stage. Students learn about the history and techniques of the stage director, use of the stage, play selection and analysis, casting the play, working with actors, blocking the action, picturization, character development, rhythm, and the organization of the audition and rehearsal process. Emphasis is placed on class activities such as exercises in staging techniques and directing short scenes. Students also explore career opportunities including stage management and assistant directing.
